Our Heritage
The name G Plan originates from Ebenezer Gomme, an enterprising furniture maker who established his first factory in 1898. Throughout the 60’s and 70’s G Plan became an iconic brand, setting the tone for British furniture making. Over the years our business has grown to become one of the UK’s biggest upholstery manufacturers, and to this day G Plan continues to have an excellent reputation for quality and comfort.

We pride ourselves on sourcing the best fabrics from around the world including premium quality leather that will stay beautiful for many years to come. Inspiration and advice
Mixing the old and the new Classic elegance never dates, so don’t be afraid to team antique objects with more contemporary pieces. Antique mirrors can look stunning in a minimal setting. Just remember to keep things simple.
Using bold colours
If you want to make a statement, decorating with bright colours could be the answer. Hot pinks, bitter chocolates and burnt oranges work well with dark furniture. But if this seems too bold, why not introduce splashes of colour in the form of a bright throw or scatter cushions.
Brighten up a small room
A light colour scheme can really open up a room. If white seems a little cold, opt for creams or warm pastels. You can also use mirrors to brighten a room and give the illusion of space.
Sofa buying guide
Because everyone’s individual, with different lifestyles, homes and physiques, we strongly advise you talk to a specialist stockist about your requirements and consider the following before buying your G Plan sofa.
Room size
We recommend that you measure your room so that your sofa won’t overpower it. It’s also a good idea to measure doorways, hallways and any obstacles, such as staircases, to make sure the sofa will actually fit. Your local G Plan stockist will provide advice and assistance in gaining access to your home.
Existing décor
For a co-ordinated look, please bear in mind the colour and style of your upholstery. Why not use our online swatch service to match your current colours?
Lifestyle
Do you have children and pets? Will your sofa be in a main room or a secondary room? Think how you will use your furniture and seek professional advice from your stockist.
Support
If it’s support for your head and neck you’re after, we suggest a high backed model. Many of our models have a separate lumbar and headroll for added comfort.
Comfort
Spend some time sitting on each item of upholstery at your local stockist. How much support does it give under the legs, in the small of the back and to the head? Do you like to lie on your sofa? For extra comfort, many of our models can be fitted with recliners that are either manually or electronically operated. A rechargeable power pack is also available as an optional extra. Ensure you leave enough room for recliner mechanisms to operate fully.
Daily care
The foam, fibre and feather cushion interiors featured on the Brazilia leather range offer exceptional comfort but do require more frequent plumping than foam cushions (foam cushions are available as an option).

G Plan offers over 80 soft fabric covers and 19 leathers – your stockist will be able to advise you.
Scatter cushions
As we all know, scatter cushions can enhance our comfort and provide a beautiful decorative finish to sofas and chairs.
Additional scatter cushions can be ordered in three ways:
- The dedicated scatter cushion fabrics photographed, Cube, Zodiac and Florina can be co-ordinated with G Plan’s best selling fabrics. Darwin Gold is now also available. (These fabrics are only available as scatter cushions and cannot be used to cover upholstery or to make curtains).
- Any of G Plan’s 80+ soft cover fabrics can be used for either a matching or co-ordinated look.
- Charleston and Zara are supplied with scatter cushions included in the price. If additional matching cushions are required they must be specified as being for each of these models as they each have unique sizes. All G Plan’s scatter cushions (with the exception of Zara) are 17” x 17” (4 cm x 4 cm) and are feather filled in flame retardant cases.
All fabrics in the G Plan pattern book conform to Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 and subsequent amendments.

Furniture care advice
Useful tips to help keep your sofa and chairs looking their best:
- Plump up cushions regularly to stop them from creasing and flattening. Turn reversible cushions regularly to enhance their appearance and comfort.
- Where possible, reposition upholstery in your room to give more equal seat usage.
- Lightly vacuum fabric covered upholstery once a week to prevent dust from building up. Accumulated dirt will dull colours and speed up wear.
- When cleaning leather furniture, dust with a soft brush weekly and wipe with a damp cloth. Do not use polishes, detergents, solvents, white spirit or stain removers in case they damage the leather. Clean quarterly by wiping over with a lukewarm mild solution of a pure soaping agent.
It is important to not over wet the leather. Failure to carry out simple cleaning on a regular basis can reduce the life of your leather upholstery. In the event of accidents or severe soiling, please contact your stockist or seek professional advice.
- Do not leave newspapers on your sofa or chairs as the ink can stain.
- Direct sunlight can cause fading so protect furniture by drawing curtains and blinds whenever possible.
- Avoid sitting on the arms of chairs and sofas to prevent wear and tear. While we know children love jumping on sofas they can damage the cushion covers and seat platforms.
- Care should be taken with sharp edged toys, buckles and jewellery. Trim off loose threads with sharp scissors as pulling threads could leave a hole.
- Recliner mechanisms should be operated with care and children should refrain from playing on them.
- Keep furniture away from direct heat or air-conditioning as this can cause joints to dry out and crack.
- Keep pets off furniture to avoid scratches or marks.
- Removable armcaps are available on selected models.
Sirocco
